Short description
Sex and the City, released in 2008, continues the story of four friends in New York years after the television series ended. Carrie Bradshaw is a newspaper columnist whose relationship with Mr. Big has finally settled into something lasting, and the two are planning a wedding. As the guest list grows and the ceremony takes on a life of its own, Big becomes uneasy about the scale of the event, and the situation soon falls apart. Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha each have their own concerns, including work, marriage, motherhood and romance, and they rally around Carrie when she needs them. The film is set in Manhattan and follows the same characters as the series, with their friendship as the constant.
Michael Patrick King wrote and directed the film, his first feature as director; he also directed its sequel, Sex and the City 2, in 2010. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon reprise their television roles, with Chris Noth as Mr. Big and Candice Bergen as Enid Frick among a credited cast of 65. Produced by New Line Cinema and HBO, the film had a budget of 65 million USD and took 419 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from 133,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.5/10 from 2,320 votes. A critics' rating of 6/10 from 180 reviews sits between the two audience scores.
