Alexxx, Darren and Joel work dead-end jobs at a luxury hotel, scrubbing toilets and waiting tables while surrounded by wealth they can only dream about. The three friends have been trying to get their own video game made, and a meeting with a potential backer looks like their way out at last. Then armed men seize control of the hotel, and the would-be developers find themselves caught up in the crisis rather than watching it from the sidelines. With the police unable to resolve the situation quickly, the trio decides to take matters into their own hands.
Kyle Newacheck directed the film, the first of three features he has made, followed by Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2. Anders Holm, who plays Darren, wrote the screenplay, and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg produced through Point Grey Pictures alongside Scott Rudin. Adam Devine and Blake Anderson round out the central trio, with Utkarsh Ambudkar, Jamie Demetriou and Aya Cash in supporting roles across a credited cast of 52.
Released in 2018, the action comedy runs 101 minutes and was made for a budget of 27 million US dollars. Audience response was modest: it holds a rating of 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 35,000 votes, matching the 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly a thousand votes. A critics' rating of 3.4 out of 10 from 16 reviews places it below even those middling audience scores, suggesting the film found little favour on either side.
