Intersection

Vincent Eastman is a successful Vancouver architect whose life looks settled from the outside. His marriage to Sally has gone cold, and he has been seeing Olivia, a free-spirited journalist who offers the warmth and spontaneity his home life lacks. He cannot commit to either woman, and his indecision weighs on his young daughter, Meaghan. A car accident forces him to confront the choices he has made.

Mark Rydell directed this drama from a screenplay by Marshall Brickman and David Rayfiel. It is the sixth of the eight features Rydell has directed, arriving between The River and James Dean. Richard Gere plays Vincent, with Sharon Stone as Sally, Lolita Davidovich as Olivia, Martin Landau as Neal and Jennifer Morrison as Meaghan, among a credited cast of 51. The film cost about 45 million dollars and returned roughly 21 million worldwide, a shortfall against its budget.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4 from around 9,600 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 from about 177. A critics' rating of 3.6 from 31 reviews places it below even those subdued audience scores, suggesting a largely negative reception. The film updates a familiar story of a man caught between two women and the consequences of his hesitation.
