In 2029, the two Koreas are moving ahead with a five-year plan for reunification, a process that has drawn sanctions from other powers and divided public opinion at home. A terrorist group opposed to unification carries out attacks, and the government answers with a special police unit whose members keep their faces hidden. When one operation goes wrong, a member of the squad is sent to make contact with the sister of a young female attacker. The film is a live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, shifting its setting to a divided Korea.
Kim Jee-woon directed and co-wrote the film with Jeon Cheol-hong, placing it between The Age of Shadows and Cobweb in his filmography. Gang Dong-won, Han Hyo-joo and Jung Woo-sung lead a cast that also includes Kim Moo-yul, Han Yeri and Minho. The production was mounted on a budget of about 17 million US dollars by Warner Bros. Korea with several international partners.
Released in July 2018, the film runs 138 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from roughly 6,100 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from around 336 votes. A critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 10 reviews sits below both audience scores.
