Gogol. Viy

A mysterious rider is murdering young women near the village of Dikanka. Nikolai Gogol, a scribe from Saint Petersburg, leads the investigation while struggling with macabre visions and fainting spells. When he discovers that his love, Liza, is the intended next victim, he teams up with Khoma Brut, a philosopher and witch hunter skilled in martial arts. To stop the killer and prevent the witch Ulyana from summoning a powerful demon, the two men spend three nights in an old chapel performing a funeral service and calling upon the spirit Viy.

Directed by Egor Baranov, this film is the third in a sequence of his works, following The Honored Priest: Confession of a Samurai and Gogol. The Beginning. The movie stars Alexander Petrov as Nikolai Gogol and Aleksey Vertkov as Khoma Brut, with a credited cast of 27 performers. Produced by Sreda, the project earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office.
