Hearts Beat Loud

Hearts Beat Loud centres on Frank Fisher, a single father who runs a vintage record shop in the Red Hook neighbourhood of Brooklyn. Frank is preparing for two changes at once: his daughter Sam is about to leave home for college, and his store is being forced to close. Music has long been the bond between them, so he persuades Sam to turn their regular jam sessions into a father-and-daughter act. When one of their songs takes off online, the pair face a summer of writing and playing together while Frank struggles with the prospect of her departure.

The film was directed by Brett Haley, who wrote the screenplay with Marc Basch. It followed Haley's I'll See You in My Dreams (2015) and The Hero (2017), and came before All the Bright Places and All Together Now, both released in 2020, and People We Meet on Vacation (2026). Nick Offerman plays Frank and Kiersey Clemons plays Sam, with supporting roles for Blythe Danner as Marianne Fisher, Toni Collette as Leslie, Sasha Lane as Rose and Ted Danson as Dave. Twenty cast members and 46 crew are credited.

Made for about 2 million dollars, the film took roughly the same amount at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 159 reviews, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8 out of 10 from 289 votes, so audiences rated it a little lower than critics did.
