Doug Simpson manages a Los Angeles radio station and is raising his two daughters on his own. While he is away on a business trip, his fifteen-year-old daughter Katie, previously an awkward teenager, transforms her appearance with help from his girlfriend Janet. When Doug returns, he finds boys suddenly paying attention to Katie, and he struggles to accept that she is growing up. His attempts to control her social life give way to advice from a psychologist, Dr. Fishbinder, whose suggested tactics backfire and threaten to cost Doug his daughter's trust.
Stan Dragoti directed the film, the fourth of five features he made between 1979 and 1991, following Love at First Bite, Mr. Mom and The Man with One Red Shoe. Tony Danza stars as Doug, with Catherine Hicks as Janet, Wallace Shawn as Dr. Fishbinder, Dick O'Neill as Mr. Pearson, and Ami Dolenz as Katie. Seth Winston and Michael J. Nathanson wrote the screenplay, and Stephen Deutsch produced. The film runs 97 minutes and was released in April 1989.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from around 5,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 123 votes. It grossed about 12 million dollars worldwide.
