Beast

Moll Huntford, twenty-seven, still lives on Jersey with her controlling mother, Hilary, in a household where every move is monitored. The island's closed, watchful society offers her little room to breathe. At a party she is harassed by a man who will not take no for an answer until Pascal Renouf, an outsider who hunts and keeps to himself, steps in with a rifle and walks her home. A romance develops between them, and through Pascal, Moll begins to imagine a life beyond her family's grip. At the same time, a series of murders of young women has the island on edge, and Pascal becomes a suspect.

Beast is a British crime drama directed by Michael Pearce, who also wrote the screenplay; it is his first feature, followed by Encounter and Echo Valley. Jessie Buckley plays Moll, Johnny Flynn plays Pascal, Geraldine James plays Hilary, and Trystan Gravelle, Oliver Maltman and Tim Woodward appear in supporting roles. The production involved Film4, the BFI and Agile Films, with 36 credited cast members and 41 credited crew.

On IMDb the film holds 8.6/10 from 41 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.5/10 from 357 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 147 reviews places it above the audience score on TMDB but below the small IMDb sample, suggesting a film that reviewers received more consistently than general viewers did.
