Transit

Georg is a German refugee who flees as troops approach Paris and reaches Marseille with the belongings of Weidel, a writer who has taken his own life. Among the papers are a manuscript, letters and the promise of a visa from the Mexican embassy. Because Marseille allows only those who can prove they will move on, Georg takes on the dead man's identity. His plan to leave changes when he meets Marie, a young woman looking for the husband she will not abandon.

Christian Petzold wrote and directed the film, which follows Phoenix in the sequence of features he has made. Franz Rogowski plays Georg and Paula Beer plays Marie, with Godehard Giese, Lilien Batman, Barbara Auer and Matthias Brandt in supporting roles. The film was produced by Florian Koerner von Gustorf, Antonin Dedet and Michael Weber.

Released in 2018, Transit runs 102 minutes and was made in Germany and France. It earned about 1 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7/10 from a much smaller number of votes, so the two audiences roughly agree.
