Dumplin'

Willowdean "Dumplin'" Dickson is a confident teenager in a small Texas town whose mother, Rosie, is a former beauty queen still heavily involved in running the local pageant. When a new romance makes Willowdean question how she sees herself, she decides to sign up for the pageant as a statement about who deserves to be judged beautiful, drawing her friends into the same unlikely contest and setting up a clash with her mother's expectations.

The film stars Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean and Jennifer Aniston as Rosie, with Odeya Rush, Maddie Baillio, Bex Taylor-Klaus and Luke Benward in supporting roles. It was directed by Anne Fletcher, whose earlier work includes Step Up, 27 Dresses, The Proposal and The Guilt Trip, and it followed Hot Pursuit in her filmography before Hocus Pocus 2. Kristin Hahn wrote the screenplay and produced with Michael Costigan and Trish Hofmann.

Released in December 2018, Dumplin' runs 110 minutes and blends comedy, drama and music. It holds a 6.5 rating on IMDb from around 40,000 votes and a 6.8 on TMDB from roughly 1,500 votes, while a critics' score of 6.7 from 65 reviews places professional opinion very close to the audience average.
