The Good Die Young

The Good Die Young is a British crime thriller about four men whose paths cross in a London pub and who are drawn into a mail van robbery. At the centre is Rave Ravenscourt, a wealthy and amoral young man who sizes up the others, a down-on-his-luck clerk, a former boxer, and an American airman, and plays on their money troubles to recruit them. The plan targets a van carrying a large sum, but the job does not go as intended.

Lewis Gilbert directed and co-wrote the film with Vernon Harris, with John Woolf producing. It was among Gilbert's earlier features; his later credits include Sink the Bismarck!, Alfie, You Only Live Twice and Educating Rita. The cast includes Laurence Harvey as Rave, Richard Basehart, Joan Collins, Gloria Grahame, John Ireland and Rène Ray, with forty credited performers in all.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.7 from around 1,800 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from a much smaller pool of 38 votes. The larger sample on IMDb suggests a modest but settled reputation among viewers of British crime films of the period. It runs 100 minutes.
