Brea, a journalist, and her boyfriend John head to the mountains for a romantic weekend away. During a stop at a gas station, they cross paths with a motorcycle gang, and the encounter leaves them shaken. What they do not realise is that a phone carrying evidence connected to a human trafficking operation has ended up among their belongings. When the gang comes after them, the couple is left stranded and isolated, and they must fight to survive against men determined to protect what the phone reveals.
The film was directed by Deon Taylor, who also wrote the screenplay. It is the sixth feature he directed, following Meet the Blacks and preceding Black and Blue and The Intruder. Paula Patton plays Brea and Omar Epps plays John, with Missi Pyle, Laz Alonso, Luke Goss and William Fichtner among the supporting cast.
Made for a modest budget of about four million dollars, Traffik went on to take roughly ten million dollars worldwide, a return that reflects a low-cost production finding an audience. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from around 23,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 from just under 500 votes. A critics' score of 4 out of 10 from 31 reviews places it below those audience figures, indicating a mixed response from reviewers compared with viewers.
