A former racing star is pulled back into the sport when his son, a young driver, leaves his team for a rival outfit. The father's frustration at being surpassed turns into a direct rivalry on the track, and the two men have to work through long-standing family and professional tensions.
Trading Paint is a 2019 action drama directed by Karzan Kader, his second feature after Bekas in 2012, and written by Gary Gerani and Craig R. Welch. John Travolta, who also produced alongside Silvio Muraglia and Andrea Iervolino, leads the cast as Sam. Shania Twain plays Becca, with Michael Madsen as the rival team figure Linsky, Toby Sebastian as Sam's son Cam, and supporting turns from Margaret Bowman and Jonathan Aidan Cockrell. The production was an international effort involving companies from the United Kingdom, Spain and the United States, and the credited crew of 128 dwarfs the on-screen cast of 25.
Reception was weak. A critics' rating of 3.9/10 from 13 reviews places it below the audience scores, and the viewer numbers agree: 4.5/10 on IMDb from around 2,800 votes and 5.3/10 on TMDB from roughly 130 votes. The gap between the two audience figures reflects the much larger IMDb sample. With an 87-minute runtime, the film sits as a minor entry in its lead actor's later career rather than a success.
