Short description
Bonnie and Clyde is a 1967 American crime drama directed by Arthur Penn. Set during the Great Depression, it follows Bonnie Parker, a bored young waitress in a small Texas town, and Clyde Barrow, a former convict, who meet and become lovers before embarking on a string of car thefts and bank robberies across the country. A small circle of accomplices joins them, and their exploits make them famous, though the authorities pursue them relentlessly. The film draws on the real pair of Depression-era outlaws.
Arthur Penn directed the film after The Chase (1966), placing it fifth in his feature career, with later works including Little Big Man and Night Moves. David Newman and Robert Benton wrote the screenplay, and Warren Beatty produced and starred as Clyde alongside Faye Dunaway as Bonnie. Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, Estelle Parsons and Denver Pyle appear in supporting roles.
Made for about three million dollars, the film earned roughly fifty-one million worldwide, a large return on its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.7 from around 128,000 votes, while on TMDB it is rated 7.5 from about 1,850 votes. Critics' reviews, numbering seventy-four, give it 9 out of 10, a critical score well above both audience ratings.

- Before filming began, Faye Dunaway was ordered to lose 12 kg to match her character. The actress starved herself for weeks, sometimes only eating salad. She also wore a 5 kg weight belt and wrist weights to lose weight faster. She only took them off at night and in the shower.
- The heads of Warner Bros. studio weren't very confident in this project and even offered Warren Beatty 40% of the profits instead of a fee.
- Jane Fonda, Cher, and Shirley MacLaine were among those who auditioned for the role of Bonnie Parker.
- Warren Beatty hesitated for a long time whether to play the main role or not, as Clyde was short in real life, and he envisioned Bob Dylan in the part. Casting was done based on finding actors who resembled real people.
