A short adventure from the How to Train Your Dragon series, Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon accompanies Gobber as he sets out to settle an old score with the Boneknapper, a dragon whose existence his fellow Vikings doubt. Hiccup and his young companions join their mentor on the voyage, which ends in a shipwreck on a strange island and a plan to track down the creature. What follows tests Gobber's story against the skepticism of the others.
The film was released in 2010 and runs sixteen minutes, produced by DreamWorks Animation. It was directed by John Puglisi from a screenplay by Peter Steinfeld, with Bruce Seifert producing. Jay Baruchel voices Hiccup, Craig Ferguson voices Gobber, and Gerard Butler voices Stoick. America Ferrera, Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse voice Astrid, Snotlout and Fishlegs. It follows the first How to Train Your Dragon feature and shares its voice cast.
Audience response has been favorable rather than strong: on IMDb the short holds 6.9/10 from roughly 4,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1/10 from about 294 votes. Both figures reflect a modest but positive reception typical of a short companion piece tied to a larger franchise.
