A Taliban fighter is captured by American forces in Afghanistan and transported to a secret detention site in Europe. When the vehicle carrying him crashes, he escapes into a snow-covered forest, where he is hunted by an army that officially does not exist. Unable to speak the language and with no one to turn to, he must kill to stay alive. Vincent Gallo plays the fugitive, with Emmanuelle Seigner as a local woman and supporting turns from David L. Price, Zach Cohen, Iftach Ophir and Nicolai Cleve Broch.
Jerzy Skolimowski directed and co-wrote the film with James McManus and Ewa Piaskowska; he and Piaskowska also produced it. Made in 2010, it sits between Moonlighting (1982) and EO (2022) in the six features he directed, and is a co-production between Hungary, Ireland, Norway and Poland, shot on a budget of about four million dollars. The story is told largely without dialogue, following one man through a hostile landscape.
On IMDb the film holds a 6.3 rating from 53 reviews, while on TMDB it has a 5.9 from 177 votes, a narrow gap that suggests critics and general viewers responded to it with broadly similar, moderate enthusiasm. Its 84-minute runtime keeps the focus on the chase and on Gallo's near-wordless performance.
