Little Women

Little Women is a contemporary adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel, following the four March sisters as they move from childhood into adulthood. Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy grow up in New York, where they turn an attic into a private world for the stories they invent. The sisters take different paths as they get older. Jo pursues a career as a writer, and when Beth falls ill, the family comes back together; Beth asks Jo for a story, and Jo draws on their shared life for it. Love, separation and loss test the bond the sisters rely on.

Clare Niederpruem directed and wrote the screenplay with Kristi Shimek, and the film was produced by Maclain Nelson, Kristi Shimek and Stephen Shimek. It was Niederpruem's first feature as director, ahead of As Luck Would Have It and later television films. Sarah Davenport plays Jo, Melanie Stone is Meg, Allie Jennings is Beth, and Lea Thompson appears as the sisters' mother; Lucas Grabeel and Ian Bohen are also in the cast.

Made for about 4 million dollars, the film took roughly 12 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 from around 1,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 26 reviews places it below both audience scores.
