Nekromantik 2 is a German horror drama from 1991, written and directed by Jörg Buttgereit, following his 1988 debut Nekromantik. Monika, a young nurse, works alone in a hospital and longs for closeness with Robert, a man who killed himself at the end of the previous film. She exhumes his body, takes it home and keeps it with her, dismembering it to hold onto what she can. Her life changes when she meets Mark, a man who dubs dialogue for pornographic films, and she begins a relationship with him while her attachment to the corpse continues. Torn between the two, she has to decide what kind of life she wants.
The screenplay was written by Buttgereit and Franz Rodenkirchen, and Manfred O. Jelinski produced through Jelinski & Buttgereit. Monika M. plays Monika, Mark Reeder plays Mark, and Beatrice Manowski, Carola Ewers, Astrid Ewerts and Eva-Maria Kurz appear in supporting roles. The film runs 103 minutes and was released in May 1991.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 4,600 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 5.2 out of 10, from about 113 votes. Those figures point to a small, niche following rather than broad approval, consistent with the film's transgressive subject matter and its place as a direct continuation of Buttgereit's first feature.
