Iron Jawed Angels

Iron Jawed Angels is a television drama about the militant wing of the American women's suffrage movement in the early twentieth century. Led by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, a small group of young activists pushes for a federal amendment granting women the vote, breaking with the more cautious tactics of the established suffrage leadership under Carrie Chapman Catt. Their campaign brings them into conflict with the government of President Woodrow Wilson and exposes them to arrest and harsh treatment, while the personal costs of their commitment weigh on their relationships and their limited freedom.

Katja von Garnier directed the film, which followed her 1993 feature Making Up! and stands as the second of the six features listed for her. Hilary Swank plays Paul, with Frances O'Connor as Burns, Anjelica Huston as Catt, and Vera Farmiga, Molly Parker and Margo Martindale among the supporting cast.
