Short description
Dracula Untold is a 2014 action fantasy horror film from the United States, directed by Gary Shore in his feature debut. The story follows Vlad Tepes, a Romanian prince who has secured peace for his people, until the Ottoman sultan Mehmed demands boys from his realm to build an army. To protect his wife Mirena, his son Ingeras and his lands, Vlad seeks out a dark and ancient power hidden in the mountains, trading his soul for the strength to defeat his enemies. The bargain grants him monstrous abilities but comes with a curse: he becomes the first vampire, a creature of the night.
Luke Evans leads the cast as Vlad, alongside Sarah Gadon as Mirena, Dominic Cooper as Mehmed II and Charles Dance as the Master Vampire. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay, and Michael De Luca produced, with Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures behind the film. The film's premise draws on the historical figure who later inspired Bram Stoker's novel, blending myth and history.
Made for $70 million, it earned $217 million worldwide, a solid return for its budget. Audience response was moderate: it holds a 6.2 rating from some 222,000 voters on IMDb and a 6.5 from around 6,600 on TMDB. A critics' rating of 4.5 from 133 reviews shows reviewers were considerably less enthusiastic than moviegoers. The film sits at the start of Shore's directing career, before Holidays and Haunting of the Queen Mary.

- In reality, Prince Vlad III the Impaler had 2 wives, neither of whom was named Mirena, and 4 sons, none of whom was named Ingeras.
- Samantha Barks was originally cast as Baba Yaga, and Charlie Cox also received a role in the film. However, all scenes involving their characters were ultimately cut.
