In the summer of 1994, two best friends in a small Scottish town are about to be separated. Johnno's family is moving him away, while Spanner faces an uncertain future where he lives. Before their paths divide, the pair set out for one last night together, heading to an illegal rave. Set against the rise of the underground rave scene, the film follows the two as they try to hold on to their friendship and their freedom over the course of a single night.

Beats is a British comedy-drama directed by Brian Welsh, who wrote the screenplay with Kieran Hurley, and produced by Camilla Bray for Rosetta Productions. Lorn Macdonald plays Spanner, with Laura Fraser, Brian Ferguson, Ross Mann, Gemma McElhinney and Amy Manson among the cast. The film was released in May 2019 and runs 100 minutes.
