The Croods

The Croods follows a prehistoric family who have survived by staying hidden in their cave, venturing out only briefly to find food. The father, Grug, insists on these strict rules, but his teenage daughter Eep is restless and curious about what lies beyond their shelter. After an earthquake destroys the cave, the family is forced to travel through an unfamiliar and dangerous landscape. They are joined by Guy, a nomadic caveman with new ideas about how to survive, whose modern thinking clashes with Grug's cautious conservatism even as the family comes to depend on him.

The film was directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, who also wrote the screenplay. It was released in 2013 as the third feature Sanders directed, following Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, and the second for DeMicco after Space Chimps. The voice cast includes Nicolas Cage as Grug, Emma Stone as Eep, Ryan Reynolds as Guy, Catherine Keener as Ugga, Cloris Leachman as Gran and Clark Duke as Thunk.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox with a budget of 135 million dollars, the film earned 587 million dollars worldwide. It holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from 250,000 votes and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 7,707 votes, while critics gave it 6.6 out of 10 across 142 reviews, placing the critical response slightly below the audience scores.
