Impostor

Impostor is a science fiction thriller set in a future where Earth has been at war with an alien species for years. Spencer Olham is a government scientist who has developed a weapon meant to end the conflict. His life changes when a security agency arrests him, convinced that he is not human but an alien replicant who has taken the real Olham's place and carries a bomb inside his body. Unable to trust the authorities pursuing him, Olham escapes and tries to establish who he really is, uncertain himself about the truth. The film was directed by Gary Fleder, its sixth feature following Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Kiss the Girls and Don't Say a Word, and preceding Runaway Jury, The Express and Homefront. Gary Sinise stars as Olham and also produced, alongside Daniel Lupi and Fleder. Madeleine Stowe plays Olham's wife Maya, with Mekhi Phifer, Vincent D'Onofrio, Tony Shalhoub and Tim Guinee in supporting roles. The screenplay is credited to Ehren Kruger, David Twohy and Caroline Case.

The production had a budget of 30 million dollars and returned roughly 8 million worldwide, a weak result. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.2 from about 25,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from around 500 votes, indicating modest and limited audience interest rather than a broad following. A critics' rating of 4.3 from 96 reviews is noticeably lower than either audience figure, so the film was received less favorably by reviewers than by viewers. It runs 102 minutes and was released in December 2001.
