Aline is a musical comedy-drama about a girl from a large, music-loving Quebec family who grows up to become one of the world's biggest singing stars. Born in the late 1960s as the fourteenth child of Sylvette and Anglomard Dieu, Aline is discovered to have an exceptional voice. Her family sends a recording to the music producer Guy-Claude Camard, who becomes determined to turn her into a global star. As her career advances, her bond with Guy-Claude develops into something more personal, and the two build an extraordinary life together. The story is a fictionalized take on the life and love story of Canadian singer Céline Dion.
The film is directed and co-written by Valérie Lemercier, who also plays Aline, with Brigitte Buc sharing screenplay credit. It is the fourth feature Lemercier directed, following From Behind, The Ultimate Accessory and Marie-Francine. The cast includes Sylvain Marcel as Guy-Claude, Danielle Fichaud as Sylvette, Arnaud Préchac and Roc LaFortune as Anglomard, and Denis Lefrançois as Jean-Claudin, among 39 credited performers. Made in Belgium, Canada and France, it had a budget of about 26 million USD and took roughly 11 million USD worldwide.
Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 3,700 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 out of 10 from about 403 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 80 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
