Hop

Hop is a family comedy about a teenager who would rather drum than follow the family business. That teenager is E.B., the son of the Easter Bunny, who leaves his home and the chocolate works his father intends to hand over to him, striking out for Hollywood in search of a spot in a rock band. There he meets Fred, an unemployed young man drifting through life, after Fred hits him with his car. Fred takes the injured rabbit in, and the arrangement proves difficult, since E.B. turns out to be a trying houseguest. The two eventually find common ground, and Fred ends up taking on Easter duties while E.B. recovers.

Tim Hill directed, working from a screenplay by Ken Daurio, Cinco Paul and Brian Lynch. The film came in the middle of a run of family comedies Hill made across two decades, between Alvin and the Chipmunks and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Russell Brand voices E.B. and James Marsden plays Fred, with Kaley Cuoco, Hank Azaria, Elizabeth Perkins and Gary Cole among the cast. It was produced by Illumination with Chris Meledandri among the producers.

Released in 2011, the film cost about 63 million dollars and took in roughly 184 million worldwide, a solid return. Audience scores sit in the middle: 5.4 on IMDb from over 36,000 votes and 5.8 on TMDB. A critics' rating of 4.3 from 140 reviews is lower than either audience figure.
