The Whistlers

Cristi is a Bucharest police officer who also works for a criminal group, and when he is suspected by his own superiors and placed under surveillance, he becomes entangled with Gilda, a woman close to that underworld. To reach Zsolt, a businessman in prison who knows where a large sum of hidden money is, Cristi travels to La Gomera in the Canary Islands, where he must learn Silbo Gomero, the island's ancestral whistled language, so the conspirators can communicate at a distance without being overheard. Double games among those involved soon push events toward the unpredictable.

The film is directed and written by Corneliu Porumboiu and produced by Patricia Poienaru. Vlad Ivanov plays Cristi and Catrinel Marlon plays Gilda, with Rodica Lazăr, Sabin Tambrea, Antonio Buíl and Agustí Villaronga among the cast. It is a crime thriller running 97 minutes, made as a co-production between Germany, Romania, France and Sweden.

On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 7,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6 out of 10 from roughly 185 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 across 112 reviews places it somewhat above those audience scores.
