Casanova, Last Love

In 1763, Giacomo Casanova leaves Paris after a scandal and travels to London, a city he does not know. There he encounters Marianne de Charpillon, a young courtesan who draws his attention so completely that his interest in other women fades. She resists his advances and keeps slipping away, setting a condition for giving in to him: she will belong to him only once he no longer desires her, a demand that unsettles the celebrated seducer.

Benoît Jacquot directed this drama and co-wrote it with Jérôme Beaujour and Chantal Thomas. It is the ninth of the ten features he has directed, arriving between Eva and Belle, and follows earlier period works such as Sade and Farewell, My Queen. Vincent Lindon plays Casanova, with Stacy Martin as Marianne de Charpillon. Valeria Golino, Julia Roy, Nancy Tate and Anna Cottis appear among the forty-three credited cast members. The film runs 99 minutes and was produced across Belgium, the United States and France by companies including Wild Bunch, Canal+, Ciné+ and France 3 Cinéma.

Audience ratings for the film are modest: on IMDb it holds 4.9 out of 10 from around 670 votes, and on TMDB 4.8 out of 10 from a small number of votes.
