The Corrupted

The Corrupted is a British crime thriller set in East London around the 2012 Olympic Games. Liam, a former boxer who has served time for armed robbery, wants nothing more than to rebuild his relationship with his wife and young son after his release. That hope is complicated by Clifford Cullen, a property developer whose influence reaches into politics, finance and the police, and by Liam's brother Sean, who has become entangled with Cullen's criminal network. Liam's efforts to protect his family draw him into a web of corruption and violence from which escape is difficult.

The film was directed by Ron Scalpello, his third feature following Offender in 2012 and Pressure in 2015. Nick Moorcroft wrote the screenplay, and Andrew Berg, Nik Bower and Simon Moseley produced it for Riverstone Pictures, Powderkeg Pictures and Eclipse Films. Sam Claflin plays Liam, with Timothy Spall as Cullen, Charlie Murphy as Connelly, Hugh Bonneville as Hammond, Noel Clarke as Beckett and David Hayman as Raymond Ellery.

Released in May 2019, the film runs 103 minutes. Audiences have been mixed on it: on IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1/10 from just over a hundred ratings. A small pool of critics rated it 4.8/10, placing professional opinion below the general audience response on both platforms.
