The Spy Gone North

Set in 1993, this historical thriller follows a South Korean intelligence agent who travels to Beijing to investigate North Korea's nuclear capabilities. Using a business front to gain the trust of Pyongyang officials, the operative infiltrates their inner circle to gather intelligence. As he operates within the secretive environment of the North, he becomes a tool in the political negotiations between the two governments, eventually discovering information that threatens his objective and personal sacrifices.

The film was directed by Yoon Jong-bin, following his previous works Nameless Gangster and Kundo: Age of the Rampant. The screenplay was written by Yoon Jong-bin and Kwon Sung-hui, with a cast featuring Hwang Jung-min, Lee Sung-min, Cho Jin-woong, Ju Ji-hoon, Jeong So-ri, and Kim Hong-pa. Produced by CJ Entertainment, Moonlight Film, and Sanai Pictures, the production had a budget of 17 million USD and earned 39 million USD at the worldwide box office.

Audience reception has been generally positive, with a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDb from 7,200 votes and 7.3/10 on TMDB from 225 votes. Film critics gave the movie a slightly lower rating of 7.1/10 based on 21 reviews.
