Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days

Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days continues the story begun in the 2017 film. The three afterlife guardians Gang-rim, Hae Won-maek and Deok-choon are assigned to guide a new soul, Kim Su-hong, through the trials that decide whether he may be reborn. The guardians also take on the case of an old man whose earthly time has long since passed, and they encounter the Household God, a figure who guards the living world and seems to know details of their own lives from a thousand years earlier. As the trials proceed, the guardians confront the truth of their shared past on Earth.

Kim Yong-hwa wrote and directed the film, his third feature after 200 Pounds Beauty and Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, and he would later direct The Moon. Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi return as the guardians, with Ma Dong-seok as the Household God, Kim Dong-wook as Su-hong and Lee Jung-jae as King Yeomra. The production involved 32 credited cast members and 55 credited crew.

Released in August 2018, the film had a budget of about 18 million US dollars and took roughly 113 million US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1 from 8,710 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 8.1 from 778 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.5 from nine reviews sits well below both audience scores.
