Loro 2 continues Paolo Sorrentino's fictionalised portrait of Italy between 2006 and 2010, centred on Silvio Berlusconi and the people drawn into his orbit. The film follows a group of Italians moved by ambition, admiration, affection and self-interest, who try to attach themselves to the former prime minister, depicted as a kind of living paradise. Through a constellation of characters rather than a single storyline, it sketches a period now closed, which the film treats as amoral and decadent yet remarkably alive. It is the second part of a two-part work and was released shortly after Loro 1 in 2018, arriving between Youth and The Hand of God in Sorrentino's filmography.
Sorrentino directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Umberto Contarello, with Carlotta Calori, Francesca Cima and Nicola Giuliano producing for Indigo Film alongside Pathé and France 2 Cinéma. Toni Servillo plays Berlusconi and also Ennio, heading a cast that includes Elena Sofia Ricci as Veronica, Riccardo Scamarcio as Sergio Morra, Kasia Smutniak as Kira, Euridice Axén as Tamara and Alice Pagani as Stella. Servillo had previously worked with Sorrentino on The Consequences of Love, Il Divo and The Great Beauty.
Made for a reported 21 million dollars, the film took roughly 3 million dollars worldwide. Audience response has been positive: it holds 7 out of 10 on IMDb from about 3,200 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from 396 votes.
