Alice works as a camgirl under the name Lola, performing for paying viewers while keeping a deliberate distance from them. One day she finds she can no longer log in to her account, and discovers that an exact double of her has taken over her profile. The stranger looks just like Alice and draws away her followers, refusing to follow the same rules Alice set for herself, and Alice sets out to find out who is behind it and to take back her identity.
Cam is a horror, mystery and thriller film from the United States, released in 2018 and running 95 minutes. It was directed by Daniel Goldhaber from a screenplay by Isa Mazzei, with Adam Hendricks, John H. Lang and Greg Gilreath producing for Blumhouse Productions, Divide / Conquer and Gunpowder & Sky. Madeline Brewer plays Alice and her double, alongside Patch Darragh, Melora Walters, Devin Druid, Imani Hakim and Michael Dempsey. The film was Goldhaber's first feature, ahead of How to Blow Up a Pipeline and Faces of Death.
Made for about one million dollars, the film drew a modest audience response: 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 39,000 votes, and 5.8 out of 10 on TMDB from around 1,600 votes. Critics rated it considerably higher, at 7.2 out of 10 from 103 reviews.
