In the Line of Duty 3

In the Line of Duty 3 follows two thieves, Nakamura Genji and Michiko Nishiwaki, who work for a Japanese terrorist organization known as the Red Army. Their raid on a jewelry exhibition in Tokyo leaves a trail of dead, among them a police officer. The stolen jewels turn out to be fakes, so the pair heads to Hong Kong chasing the genuine articles. There, a Hong Kong policewoman, Yeung Lai-Ching, is assigned to escort a Japanese inspector investigating the case, a quiet duty that quickly collapses into violence and draws her into a personal confrontation with Michiko.

Released in 1988, the film is an action crime thriller from Hong Kong and Japan, produced by D & B Films and directed by Arthur Wong Ngok-Tai and Brandy Yuen Jan-Yeung, from a screenplay by Chan Kiu-Ying, Kim Yip Kwong-Kim and Law Tai-Man, with Stephen Shin producing. Cynthia Khan leads as Madam Yeung, alongside Hiroshi Fujioka, Michiko Nishiwaki, Stuart Yung Sai-Kit, Dick Wei and Paul Chun among a credited cast of 23. It runs 84 minutes.

Audience response has been steady rather than enthusiastic: on IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from 965 votes, and on TMDB the same 6.6 from 33 votes. The agreement between the two, from very different sample sizes, suggests a modest but settled reputation among viewers of Hong Kong action cinema of the period.
