The Great Battle
Short description
Set in 645, the story takes place in the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo during an invasion by the Tang dynasty. The Chinese Emperor leads a massive army toward the capital, capturing several strongholds along the way. The imperial forces eventually meet strong resistance at the fortress of Ansi. Despite being heavily outnumbered, General Yang Man-chun and his soldiers fight to hold the fortification as the final barrier against the invading army.
The action-history film was directed by Kim Kwang-sik and represents the first of two films he has directed, followed by CODE : G in 2025. The cast features Zo In-sung as General Yang Man-chun, Nam Joo-hyuk as Sa-mool, and Park Sung-woong as Emperor Li Shimin. A total of 36 actors are credited in the production.
Produced by Next Entertainment World, Studio & New, Soojak Film, and Motive Pictures, the movie had a budget of 17 million USD and earned 43 million USD at the worldwide box office. It is generally well-regarded by audiences, holding a 7/10 rating on IMDb from 6,770 votes and a 6.7/10 rating on TMDB from 197 votes. Film critics gave the movie a higher score of 8.6/10 based on 7 reviews.
