April Captains

April Captains is a historical drama centered on the 1974 military coup in Portugal, known as the Carnation Revolution. The story follows two young army captains and a female journalist and teacher during the twenty-four hours that led to the collapse of the country's right-wing dictatorship. The narrative depicts how the insurgents used a forbidden song as a radio signal to launch their march on Lisbon, aiming to end decades of fascist policies and shift the destiny of Portuguese territories in Africa.

The film was directed by Maria de Medeiros, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ève Deboise and starred as Antónia. The cast includes Stefano Accorsi, Joaquim de Almeida, Frédéric Pierrot, Fele Martínez, and Manuel João Vieira. A joint production involving companies from Spain, Italy, Portugal, and France, the movie was made with a budget of 4 million USD.
