Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is a music documentary about the Canadian singer's rise from a small-town childhood in Stratford, Ontario, to headlining a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in 2010. The film follows his early performances on the street and the home videos he posted online, which caught the attention of manager Scooter Braun and led to a partnership with Usher. Interviews and concert footage trace how a teenager became an international pop star, with appearances by Ludacris, Miley Cyrus, Boyz II Men and members of his family, crew and fanbase.
Jon M. Chu directed the film, the fourth of the thirteen features he has directed to date, arriving between The LXD: The Secrets of the Ra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Dan Cutforth, L.A. Reid and Scooter Braun produced it for Paramount, MTV Films, Insurge Pictures and AEG Live. Justin Bieber appears as himself, alongside Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Miley Cyrus and Ludacris among a credited cast of forty-eight.
Made for a budget of thirteen million dollars, the film grossed about ninety-nine million worldwide. Audience scores diverge sharply: IMDb users rate it 1.7 out of 10 from roughly seventy-seven thousand votes, while TMDB users give it 5.2 out of 10 from several hundred votes.
