Miranda Wells is a widow raising three children on her own, struggling with money and grief, when a storm damages her house. A handyman named Bray Johnson arrives to help with the repairs, and over the days that follow he also shares his belief that the universe can deliver what a person wants. As he grows closer to the family, however, it becomes clear that his arrival is no coincidence: he has a hidden connection to Miranda's past. The film is a drama with romantic elements, based on Rhonda Byrne's book about the power of positive thinking, and Byrne is among its producers.
Andy Tennant directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Parks and Bekah Brunstetter. It is the tenth film he directed, following a run of romantic comedies and dramas that includes Sweet Home Alabama and Hitch, and arriving before Unit 234. Katie Holmes plays Miranda, Josh Lucas plays Bray, and Jerry O'Connell, Celia Weston, Sarah Hoffmeister and Aidan Pierce Brennan round out the main cast.
Made for about 21 million dollars, the film returned roughly 3 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from over 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.3 from a much smaller pool of around 680. A critics' rating of 4.7 from 54 reviews places it below both audience scores.
