Short description
In one fell swoop, nine-year old David Van de Steen lost his mother, his father and his sister in an attack by the Brabant Killers in Aalst. His grandfather, Albert, has the well-nigh impossible task of giving David a new perspective on life, a future.
What's left behind the scenes
- A reconstruction of the events of November 9, 1985, when a store in Alst was robbed, marking the final crime of the so-called Brabant Killers gang. David van de Steen, who was 9 years old at the time and survived, visited the set every day serving as an expert.
- The film tells the true story of the so-called Brabant Killers, a gang active between 1983 and 1985. Over several raids, they killed 28 people, often simply out of rage if the loot seemed insufficient. The identities and motives of the criminals remained a mystery, although the brutal murders they committed were attributed to blackmail attempts, political terrorism, and contract killings. No adequate investigation of the crimes ever followed.
- An adaptation of the book by David van de Steen, one of the survivors of the gang attack on a store in November 1985. The words "Don't shoot, that's my daddy" were spoken by his sister, who was shot dead by the gangsters.
