Millie Kessler, a seventeen-year-old student at Blissfield High, becomes the target of a serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher. When he uses an ancient, mystical dagger on her, the two wake up in each other's bodies. Millie has less than a day to undo the switch before it becomes permanent, while the killer, now appearing as an ordinary teenager, uses his new identity to continue killing. Millie turns to her friends Nyla and Josh, and to her crush Booker, for help.

Christopher Landon directed and co-wrote the film with Michael Kennedy, and Jason Blum produced it through Blumhouse. It follows Landon's Happy Death Day and its sequel, and precedes We Have a Ghost and Drop. Kathryn Newton plays Millie and Vince Vaughn plays the Butcher, with Celeste O'Connor, Misha Osherovich, Uriah Shelton and Mitchell Hoog in supporting roles.

Released in November 2020, the film cost about 6 million dollars and took roughly 18 million dollars worldwide, a strong return relative to its budget. Reception was moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 81,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of voters. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 252 reviews places it above both audience scores.
