Short description
Six months before his retirement from the criminal police, inspector Joss finds his colleague Gouvion dead, in a poorly faked suicide attempt. Joss loses his temper, and investigates on his own, which leads him through the bas-fond of Paris...
What's left behind the scenes
- Jean Gabin (who played Police Commissioner Joss) personally asked the director to include Dominique Zardi in the cast with a view toward the upcoming filming of the armored car robbery scene. Zardi initially refused, but eventually granted the request, and was cast in the role of Horst Weiss.
- During the editing process, several episodes were removed from the film in which the brutality of the police officers was starkly evident. However, director Georges Lautner managed to fight for one such scene; to do this, he organized a meeting between the film's producers and underage punks, who confirmed that they had once been severely beaten by the police.
