Bereavement is a crime horror film set in rural Pennsylvania, where six-year-old Martin Bristoll is abducted in 1989 by Graham Sutter, a reclusive psychopath who holds the boy captive on a derelict pig farm and forces him to take part in acts of violence. Five years later, seventeen-year-old Allison Miller moves in with her uncle Jonathan and begins to notice that something is wrong at the farmhouse near their home; her investigation draws her toward the same evil that took Martin.
Stevan Mena wrote, produced and directed the film, his second feature after Malevolence (2004), and the story serves as a prequel to that earlier film. The cast includes Michael Biehn as Jonathan, Alexandra Daddario as Allison, Nolan Gerard Funk as William, Spencer List as Martin, Brett Rickaby as Graham Sutter and John Savage as Ted, among twenty-one credited performers.
Released in 2010, Bereavement had a budget of four million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1 out of 10 from around 8,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 222 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from eighteen reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a similar overall response to the film.
