Bigil

Bigil centers on Michael Rayappan, a former footballer known as Bigil, who has become the leader of a gang. When he takes charge of a women's football team, he finds the players struggle to take him seriously because of his criminal background, and he must also deal with an enemy determined to settle scores and stop the team from winning a cup. The film moves between the world of sport and the world of violence, following a man trying to turn his life and the fortunes of those around him in a new direction.

The film was released in October 2019 and runs 177 minutes. Atlee directed it from a screenplay he wrote with Ramana Girivasan, and it was produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh and Kalpathi S Suresh under AGS Entertainment. It followed Atlee's Theri and Mersal and was his third film before Jawan. Vijay plays the dual roles of Michael and Rayappan, with Nayanthara as Angel Aasirvatham, Jackie Shroff as J. K. Sharma, and Kathir, Vivek and Daniel Balaji in supporting parts, among a credited cast of 43.

Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb the film holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 27,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 out of 10 from a smaller pool of 83 votes. The larger IMDb sample suggests a broad base of viewers received it reasonably well.
