Ed Hemsler lives in a small American town and devotes himself to preparing for a catastrophe that may never arrive. Ronnie is his opposite: she keeps buying things she may never use and remains tied to her past. When the two meet, they attempt to build a relationship while keeping their own habits and accumulated belongings from coming between them.
