Kingmaker

Set during the 1971 elections, this historical drama follows Seo Chang-dae, an ambitious strategist who helps opposition politician Kim Woon-beom rise to the top of the presidential race. While both men share a goal of improving the country, they clash over the methods used to achieve it. Seo favors aggressive propaganda, whereas Kim believes such tactics are not genuine politics. As their ideological conflict deepens, Seo receives a secret offer from the ruling party that tests his loyalty to his client.

Directed by Byun Sung-hyun, this film is the third in a chronological sequence of his works, following Whatcha Wearin' and The Merciless. The screenplay was written by Byun and Kim Min-su. The movie stars Lee Sun-kyun as Seo Chang-dae and Sul Kyung-gu as Kim Woon-beom, with a credited cast of 34 actors including Yoo Jae-myung, Jo Woo-jin, Park In-hwan, and Bae Jong-ok.
