Fire Will Come

Amador Coro has finished a prison sentence for starting a fire. Nobody comes to meet him when he is released, so he goes back to his home village, a small place tucked in the mountains of rural Galicia, where he lives with his elderly mother, Benedicta, and their three cows. Their days follow the slow rhythm of the countryside, and the local people keep their distance from a man they suspect of being drawn to fire.

That uneasy calm breaks when a new fire sweeps through the region, threatening the village and its inhabitants. The community's distrust of Amador resurfaces, and the line between guilt and prejudice becomes harder to trace as the fire spreads.

Fire Will Come is directed by Oliver Laxe, who wrote the screenplay with Santiago Fillol. It is the first of the two features listed for Laxe, ahead of Sirāt, and it was made with producers Andrea Vázquez, Andrea Queralt and Mani Mortazavi across Spanish, Luxembourg and French production companies. Amador Arias plays Amador, and Benedicta Sánchez plays Benedicta. The film runs 86 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from around 4,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from roughly 133 votes, indicating a modest but steady level of attention from viewers.
