Funny Pages is a coming-of-age comedy-drama about Robert, a teenager in suburban New Jersey who draws comics and decides that the comfortable life his parents have given him is not what he wants. He leaves high school and the family home behind and moves to nearby Trenton, where he supports himself with a day job while pursuing his art. There he crosses paths with Wallace, a former colorist on a comic Robert admires, and tries to turn him into a mentor. The relationship does not go as Robert hopes, and Wallace brings disruption rather than guidance into the younger man's life.
The film is the first feature directed by Owen Kline, who also wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Josh and Benny Safdie with Ronald Bronstein, and released by A24. Daniel Zolghadri plays Robert, with Matthew Maher as Wallace, and Miles Emanuel, Maria Dizzia, Josh Pais and Marcia DeBonis among the supporting cast.
Critics rated Funny Pages 7.2 out of 10 across 105 reviews, a more favorable response than that of general audiences, who gave it 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb and 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB from far smaller numbers of voters. The film runs 87 minutes.
