Our Friend

Our Friend follows Matthew and Nicole Teague, a married couple whose lives are upended when Nicole is diagnosed with a terminal illness and given roughly six months to live. As Matthew struggles to care for her and their two young daughters at the same time, their closest friend, Dane, steps in. He sets aside his own job and relationship to move into the family's home and help, and his presence ends up shaping their daily lives far more than anyone expected. The story is based on Matthew Teague's account of his wife's illness.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite directed the film, the third of the five features listed for her, arriving between Megan Leavey and I.S.S. Brad Ingelsby wrote the screenplay, and the production was handled by Black Bear Pictures, Scott Free Productions and BBP Friend. Casey Affleck plays Matthew, Dakota Johnson plays Nicole and Jason Segel plays Dane, with Cherry Jones, Jake Owen and Denée Benton among the credited cast of 35.
