Bellflower

Woodrow and Aiden are two friends who came to California from Wisconsin and now fill their spare time with a shared obsession: building flamethrowers and other heavy weaponry. The work is preparation for an apocalypse they expect to arrive at any moment, which would finally let their long-running fantasy gang, Mother Medusa, take over a world reduced to a wasteland. Their imagined future borrows from road-warrior imagery, but real life keeps interfering. Woodrow's girlfriend is unfaithful, and a charismatic young woman entering their circle sets off a chain of events that turns far more destructive than any of their fantasies.

Evan Glodell directed, wrote and produced the film, and also plays Woodrow, heading a cast that includes Jessie Wiseman, Tyler Dawson, Rebekah Brandes, Vincent Grashaw and Zack Kraus. Glodell built much of the film's equipment himself, and the production was made on a very small independent budget.

Released in 2011 and running 106 minutes, the film mixes action, drama and romance. It played on only a couple of screens in its early run yet earned a substantial multiple of its reported cost. Its critical reception was notably warmer than its audience scores, with critics averaging 7 out of 10, while IMDb users rate it 6.3 from around 8,300 votes and TMDB users 5.9 from far fewer.
