Short description

Alfredo, a timid young Italian, lusts after and woos the beautiful Maria Rosa. But when he manages to marry her, he discovers life is not nearly so blissful as he expected.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Dustin Hoffman diligently learned all his lines in Italian before heading to Rome for filming; however, the entire movie was shot in English, and all the dialogue was later dubbed into Italian.
