Kate Mathieson was once known for swimming freely with great white sharks off South Africa, but a fatal attack during an expedition ended that life. Since the incident, she has stayed out of the water and makes a living running ordinary sea tours, carrying the belief that she is to blame for what happened. When her former partner and ex-husband returns, he persuades her to confront her fears and lead a paying client into deep water.
The client is a wealthy businessman chasing the thrill of diving with sharks without a cage, and the destination is the stretch of ocean known as Shark Alley. The film follows Kate as she returns to the environment that nearly destroyed her, with the trip growing more dangerous than anyone aboard expected.
John Stockwell directed the film, which came after Cat Run (2011) in a run of films that includes Blue Crush and Into the Blue. Halle Berry plays Kate, with Olivier Martinez as Jeff and Sizwe Msutu among the supporting cast. Ronnie Christensen and Amy Sorlie wrote the screenplay for the production, which was made for 25 million USD and shot in the United States and South Africa. On TMDB it holds a rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 244 votes.
